YEAR ESTABLISHED

Leo Garments (Pty) Ltd was established in January 1983. The company has grown over the last 26 years as a manufacturer and supplier of protective clothing and products for the safety, medical, promotional and uniform industries.

COMPANY LOCATION

The company is ideally situated in the central business district of Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. Its administration and manufacturing plant in 84/86 King Dinizulu (Berea) Road is in easy access of its suppliers, courier services and employees.

GROUP MEMBERSHIP

Leo Garments is part of the Rama Group and is a fully black empowered company with a BBBEEE scorecard reflecting a BEE recognition level of 135%.
Leo Garments is an ISO 9001:2000 accredited company and has been audited for the last 10 years and have been declared compliant with no exceptions during this period of time.
The company is also fully compliant with The National Bargaining Council for the Clothing Industry and has been complimented on a number of occasions for its fair treatment of employees.
As part of its commitment to the promotion of the local economy, Leo Garments has been a member of the Durban Chamber of Commerce for the last 20 years.
In its endeavour to promote a code of sound business ethics in the protective clothing and product industry, Leo Garments has played a prominent role in the executive functions of The Southern African Protective Equipment Marketing Association (SAPEMA). The Managing Director, Ravesh Rama, has held the position of vice-chairman for the last two years and is currently the Chairman of SAPEMA.

PRODUCTS AND SERVICES 

The vast experience gained over the last 26 years in the protective clothing industry has equipped us with technical knowledge which is always sought by the industry in respect of type of protective clothing for specific environments, material make-up, design of over wear and development of new products.
Our product range includes all types of rain wear for adults and children, chemical suits and overalls, shaft sinker suits, waders, blood and fat resistant garments, anoraks, reflective clothing, kidney belts, reflective tapes, air suits and specific garments as requested by customers.

STAFF

Leo Garments differentiates itself from other clothing industries in terms of the type of products manufactured. It has a highly specialized team of managers and operators who have vast experience in the protective clothing industry. Mr Sunny Rama, the founding Director, has been in the industry for the last four decades and is still contributing to the growth of the company. Mr Ravesh Rama, the Managing Director, has in-depth technical knowledge which is a valuable resource not only for the company but also for the industry as a whole. The company operations are under the auspices of Mr Don Rama who has an MBA in strategic management and business development.
Leo Garments has a dedicated Design and Development team who are always innovating in terms of product development and new product development.
The company has a staff of 90 people which is representative of the country’s demography.

MACHINERY AND TECHNOLOGY

Leo Garments constantly upgrades its production machines to maximize efficiencies. Regular maintenance is conduct by an on-site mechanic. Specialized machines, such as sealing and welding machines, are used to enhance product quality and adhere to stringent safety regulations.

CUSTOMER DATA BASE

Leo Garments is predominantly a national supplier to re-sellers of protective clothing and related products. The company has a data base of approximately 800 customers, and prides itself in being associated with some of the predominant role players in the safety industry.
Leo Garments also supplies industries in the SADC arena and is seeking to increase this customer data base.
The company also tenders for national orders. It has supplied rainwear to the South African National Air Force, South African Police Service and Telkom.

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING

Leo Garments has a fully equipped on-site training facility and continuously engages in employee development programmes offered by the CTFL Seta.
The company also contributes to worker academic improvement programmes by way of study grants.

CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

Leo Garments is always mindful of its corporate social responsibility and has contributed generously to the East Coast Radio’s Toy Story campaign over the last few years. Other beneficiaries include the Cheshire Homes and the Blind society.
